The Twitter kitchen now mentions a gaming model with 16,384 FP32 shaders for the Radeon RX 7000. This could be the card that previously made the rounds with 15,360 FP32 shaders and is intended to stand up to Nvidia’s enthusiast cards.

One of the two Twitter speculators for graphics cards, Greymon55, believes that AMD still has a Navi card with 16,384 FP32 shaders in the pipeline. This could be the model mentioned in other rumors with 15,360 FP32 shaders, but it could also explicitly not be the Navi 31, where only 12,288 FP32 shaders are said to be used. That’s probably the end of the confusion.

Basically, everyone agrees that the number of shaders per work group will double – from 128 to 256. It is assumed that AMD is taking the architectural step here that Nvidia already took with Ampere. And some time ago, 16,384 shaders made the rounds as the maximum expansion of a card; but since AMD chooses an MCM design, it might just be two chiplets from Navi 32 – AMD should probably have the flexible approach. According to the latest information, the following GPUs are planned:

  • Navi “30”: 16,384 SPs, 64 WGPs, 16 SAs, 8 SEs
  • Navi 31: 12,288 SPs, 48 ​​WGPs, 12 SAs, 6 SEs
  • Navi 32: 8,192 SPs, 32 WGPs, 8 SAs, 4 SEs
  • Navi 33: 4,096 SPs, 16 WGPs, 4 SAs, 2 SEs

However, it remains unclear how the card would be classified in the portfolio shown above. It would be the counterpart to what Nvidia does in the enthusiast space with an RTX 4090 Ti or Titan. Greymon mentions, “When the competition is fierce, it can always be turned into a playing card.” This suggests that a GPGPU design could be transformed here. There is a lot of speculation as to what the strategy is. The performance forecast for the Radeons was by a factor of 2.1 to 2.2 for the top model Navi 31, until it was said that RDNA 3 was “disappointing”, but without going into further details. Whether this was related to raster performance or some other aspect remains unclear.
