Even if the List of games made so far for the Star Wars universe were developed, turns out to be very long, especially in the last decade there were phases in which you as a fan could have the feeling that the rights users were not making enough of this rich universe. This is certainly why Disney has changed its strategy for many years and has given several publishers or developers the necessary rights to develop a Star Wars game.
The result of this new line: there have probably never been so many Star Wars projects for our favorite hobby that have been in parallel development at so many different studios. Also included: a remake of an RPG classic, the sequel to a great single player experience, an action-adventure from the Heavy Rain developers, an open world game from Ubisoft and many more. Below we have summarized all Star Wars games that have been announced but not yet released.
In Star Wars Eclipse you will explore an uncharted region of the Outer Rim during the golden age of the Jedi (the High Republic era). As with the previous titles from Quantic Dream, Eclipse should also focus on a deep and complex story, but up the ante in terms of gameplay. The focus of the action will be your decisions, which can have dramatic effects on the course of the story.
Knights of the Old Republic – Remake
At the Playstation Showcase 2021, the Jedi was finally let out of the bag: Sony officially announced the remake for Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic with a short teaser trailer. And who does it? Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr. And what is the game being developed for? For Playstation 5 and PC. The budget is said to be $70 million. There will be more information about the new edition in the coming months. Until then, we have to be patient and play the following seconds over and over again:
Nowadays it probably doesn’t work without mobile releases. This is as true for Diablo and Warcraft as it is for Star Wars. Star Wars Hunters was actually supposed to be released last year. But there was a shift, so the action game with Free2Play model is only coming to mobile platforms this year. You can expect team-based arena battles in various modes such as Huttenball, escort or control, in which you slip into the role of different heroes who can be divided into the three roles of tank, damage dealer and supporter. The heroes include a Wookiee, a Sith warrior, a Jedi droid, a bounty hunter or even a Jawa – each with different abilities. Cross-play between the platforms should be possible.
At the end of May 2022, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 was officially unveiled. Okay, okay, actually the game is called Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. However, the action-adventure continues the adventures of Jedi refugee Cal Kestis and takes place about five years after the first part. The story-driven action-adventure will be released in 2023 for PC, Xbox Series S/X and PS5. In the first CGI teaser trailer you already get a first impression of the dark atmosphere of the game.
First person shooter & strategy game by Respawn
However, the developers of Respawn are not only working on Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, but also on two (!) other Star Wars projects. The developers announced this in January with an official blog post. On the one hand, a first-person shooter is planned (with Peter Hirschmann in a leading position, who was already involved in the first two Battlefront games and The Force Unleashed), on the other hand, in cooperation with Bit Reactor (one of ex-Firaxis Developers (Xcom) newly founded studio) create a new strategy game (most likely turn-based tactics) for the Star Wars universe.
Action-Adventure by Skydance New Media
Also in May 2022, we reported that the Uncharted author Amy Hennig for the studio Skydance New Media, founded in 2019, on a new action-adventure in the Star Wars universe will work. There is talk of a cinematic experience with a great story focus. Other than that, all we know is that the team is supposed to be made up of a bunch of developers with AAA experience.
Open world game from the Division developers
Although the focus at Massive Entertainment (The Division 1+2) is currently clearly on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it has been clear since January 2021 that the Swedish developers, in cooperation with Lucasfilm Games, Open world game set in the Star Wars universe should develop. The game will use the studio’s Snowdrop engine and will also have a strong focus on the story.
You know what we love most about this list? Nowhere do you hear anything about blockchain or NFTs, there is only one mobile game, experienced studios or developers are working on many projects and the focus is almost everywhere on the single-player story experience. That’s exactly how it has to be. Or what do you think? And which game are you most looking forward to?
