The Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, had access to all the sensitive data of American users, reports buzzfeed referring to anonymous TikTok employees.

The publication received access to audio recordings that were made at meetings of TikTok employees discussing the privacy policy and complaints from users.

TikTok employees in China were able to view all users’ personal data from at least September 2021 to January 2022. One member of TikTok’s trust and safety department said that “in China, you can see everything.” The engineers who access the data are called “master administrators” within the company.

TikTok spokeswoman Maureen Shanahan said the social network would remove any security concerns.

We know that we are among the most scrutinized platforms in terms of security, and we are committed to removing any doubts about the security of user data in the US. That’s why we employ experts in our fields, constantly work to validate our security standards, and engage reputable, independent third parties to review our security.

At the end of this week TikTok informedwhich transferred all the data of Americans to Oracle servers in the USA. [BuzzFeed]
