On a new test drive, the Mercedes Vision EQXX electric car covered around 1,200 kilometers with just one battery charge.
At CES 2022, Mercedes presented the Vision EQXX concept study, developed by engineers from the F1 world champion team Mercedes-AMG Petronas. In April, the Swabians demonstrated on a trip in real traffic from Sindelfingen to Cassis on the Côte d’Azur that the vehicle can cover more than 1,000 kilometers with one battery charge. The engineers have now shown that the e-car can drive even further per battery charge. From Stuttgart to Silverstone, only 8.3 kWh per 100 km were consumed, so that E-car covered almost 1,200 kilometers is.
Good aerodynamics ensure low consumption and a long range
According to Mercedes, the air conditioning was active for a little over eight hours, after all there were summer temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius in places. However, the pure driving time was almost 14.5 hours, so that the interior air conditioning was also switched off for some time. The Mercedes drivers drove the EQXX at a maximum speed of 140 km/h. With an average consumption of just 8.3 kWh/100 km, Mercedes has beaten its own record of 8.7 kWh when driving to the Côte d’Azur. A battery pack with a capacity of around 100 kWh is installed in the EQXX. In order to achieve as much range as possible, the Swabians focus on aerodynamics with active control of the air intakes, an adjustable rear diffuser, special rims and a streamlined design. The EQXX achieves a drag coefficient of 0.17. In addition, the permanently installed navigation system is supported by an AI, which should also help with efficient driving.
According to the manufacturer, the concept vehicle will not be available as a production vehicle. However, individual technologies from the Vision EQXX will be on the road in future electric cars with the star. From 2025 there will be the new, purely electric vehicle platform called MB.EA, on which fully electric versions of the E-Class, S-Class and other luxury vehicles will be based. As early as 2024, Mercedes will be rolling out the MMA platform for compact cars. Battery e-cars are planned from the start, but there will also be vehicles with transverse combustion engines on this platform. Mercedes will build the internal combustion engine in a development cooperation with the Chinese car group Geely to save money. future should Mercedes perceived as a luxury manufacturer will. All vehicles will be divided into one of the Entry Luxury (four compact vehicles, e.g. CLA, GLA and GLB), Core Luxury (for C and E Class & derivatives such as GLC) or Top-End Luxury (for S-Class , GLS and all Mercedes-AMG and Maybach cars).
