The release of Mozilla Firefox 102 has an important new privacy feature for users. This new tool removes parameters from URLs that track your internet usage.
According to a Bleeping Computer article, companies like Facebook, Marketo, and HubSpot use custom URL query parameters to track click-through links. Companies do this to provide users with more personalized online advertising. These sites, called Query Parameter Striping, can no longer track which links you click when browsing in Firefox; after you enable this feature.
How to enable deletion of query parameters
Bleeping Computer says the new privacy enhancement is part of Firefox’s enhanced tracking protection. You can enable the removal of request parameters by going to Settings, clicking on Privacy and Security, and then changing Enhanced Tracking Protection to Strict.
Also, the article says that tracking options won’t be removed in private browsing even after clicking Strict.
How to enable private mode
To also enable this feature in private mode, type about:config in the address bar, search for stripe, and set “privacy.query_stripping.enabled.pbmode” to true as shown below.
Also, if you run into any issues with this new feature, you can change your settings back to “Standard”.
