Wish list surprises with a new leader

That was not to be expected: A few days ago we reported on the most wanted game on Steam, The Day Before. Now the place in the sun is history and Stray holds the 1st place.

Stray beats The Day Before

For months, The Day Before was not the number one among the Steam Player Wishlists to repress. Still on 29.06. we were able to see for ourselves that the game convinced most Steam players to tick the wishlist feature. But it was precisely this reporting, which ran on many websites worldwide, that may have caused some Steam players to revise their wish lists. It would be an odd coincidence if reports of unpaid volunteers working to get The Day Before ready for release hadn’t left some of its backers skeptical.

The new number 1 is the cyberpunk cat adventure Stray, which is due on July 19th. The unusual title, which only caused a sensation again at the beginning of June, was already in second place in the wish list ranking and should have become the focus of Steam players in view of the approaching release. For those unfamiliar with the game, Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set in the detailed neon-lit alleyways of a crumbling cybercity and the grim environment of its seedy underground. The last trailer showed a detailed and lovingly designed game environment through which we control the main character from the third person perspective, namely an (injured at the beginning) street cat.

Maybe it will also help Stray that the title will be available on Steam until July 19th. for the low price of 24.29 euros (normal: 26.99 euros). In any case, the spot at the top of the wish lists could only last a few weeks, because by definition, published games tend to disappear quickly from the rankings when interested players hit the release. The Day Before apparently still has a lot of wish list entries, the developer speaks of “millions”, and despite the postponement to March 2023, it’s still enough for second place.
