Germany’s 2018 champion Angelique Kerber was dumped out of Wimbledon following a 6-4, 7-5 defeat by Elise Mertens on Friday, but two other German women got through to the last 16 for the first time. Kerber had been looking good as she targeted a fourth grand slam singles title.
