Despite its success, Sony has yet to announce a sequel to the Uncharted film adaptation. According to a new report, however, there is already talk of a “franchise” internally.
In February, the film adaptation of “Uncharted” celebrated its theatrical release after several postponements in the wake of the COVID pandemic. And it’s actually quite successful: on the first weekend, the strip was able to bring in 139 million US dollars internationally. In the meantime, “Uncharted” even has a worldwide gross of 400 million US dollars.
Despite the financial success and hints in the film itself that would make further spin-offs possible, Sony has so far kept a low profile on confirming a sequel. However, according to a new report, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman is “excited” about another part.
Sony should continue to rely on Tom Holland
Sony had been trying to get a film adaptation of Uncharted started since 2008. Apparently, success first came with Tom Holland, who starred in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Uncharted adaptation. According to a report by The Ankler, Sony is said to continue to back the young actor. The studio is said to be trying to get Holland involved in another Spider-Man trilogy. At the same time, he is supposed to “anchor the Uncharted franchise” for Sony.
