Square Enix and Luminous Productions have announced that the first game with Microsoft’s direct storage support, Forspoken, will no longer be released in October 2022, but on January 24, 2023. It was previously speculated that Square Enix could postpone the release .
Bad news for gamers who were looking forward to Forspoken later this year, the first game to feature support for Microsoft’s Direct Storage API, as well as ray tracing for lighting options and ambient occlusion. Developers Luminous Productions and Square Enix announced on Twitter on July 6 that Forspoken’s release will be delayed due to “strategic reasons”.

As the game says it is in a near-complete state, this will likely be the last time Square Enix will have postponed Forspoken. Even after setting October 11 as the release date, rumors were already circulating that another postponement could follow, as Square Enix plans to release Final Fantasy 16 later this year. According to the current status, this should not be the case until summer 2023.
