Wolfsburg are set to be without midfielder Yannick Gerhardt in the early stages of the season owing to a knee injury, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday. Wolfsburg said that Gerhardt suffered ligament damage in his left knee in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against WSG Tirol in Austria. The club statement said he was leaving the training camp Sunday and would be sidelined for “the coming weeks.” Wolfsburg start the season with a July 30 German Cup game at fourth tier Carl-Zeiss Jena and Niko Kovac’s team open their Bundesliga campaign a week later against promoted Werder Bremen.
