For a long time, DLCs for Dragon Age and Mass Effect on the PC could only be bought for BioWare points with questionable exchange rates. This is now changing, and there is good news.

EA is finally stamping out the unloved BioWare Points on the PC. This comes from a E-mail out that EA sent out yesterday. Starting October 11th, BioWare Points will be phased out as a currency in the Origin Store. If you still have leftovers, you can still spend them on Multiplayer Pack for Mass Effect 3 until October 11th – after that the points will expire.

Why not for other content too? It’s simple: most DLCs that were previously only available with BioWare Points are now free. This affects a number of DLCs for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 – with the exception of the aforementioned multiplayer packs for Mass Effect 3. Owners of the Mass Effect Trilogy don’t care, all DLCs are included there anyway.

EA also confirms that the removal of BioWare Points will not affect content already purchased with them. You still have full access to it. This means that only the currencies Platinum and Crystals remain for BioWare titles.
