It’s over after 21 years: Josh Scherr announced his retirement from Naughty Dog via Twitter.
Naughty Dog loses one of its longtime developers. We’re talking about Josh Scherr, who announced his retirement after exactly 21 years.
10 games in 21 years
In one of three tweets writes Scherr: “When I was a kid, making video games was my hobby. I never thought I’d make them for a living, let alone in a studio like Naughty Dog. Last week, after 21 years & 10 games delivered, I said goodbye to my friends and colleagues.”
Then he thanks all his work colleagues and makes it clear that he will miss the “Dogs”. However, he sees an advantage in his resignation: In the future he will be able to play a Naughty Dog production about which he hardly knows anything. Finally, the development team is working on some “amazing stuff”.
As a co-writer at Naughty Dog, Josh Scherr has worked on four out of five Uncharted titles. For the first two offshoots, he was also responsible as the leading cinematic animator. For the third part he worked exclusively as an animator.
He was also once responsible for the “Jak & Daxter” series, where he always played the role of (head) animator. He also served as narrative designer and additional writing for the blockbuster game The Last of Us Part II.
With that, Naughty Dog deserves an important man who was involved in almost all studio projects between 2001 and 2022. Scherr was only left out with the first “The Last of Us” offshoot including DLC and remaster.
