Bloomberg is the latest publication to report an increase in iPhone shipments in China following the lifting of restrictions due to COVID-19. Apple was responsible for the smartphone market recovery in June as Chinese users buy more iPhone 13s than ever.
Mobile phone shipments in China rose 9.2% in June, led by Apple and Samsung, according to Bloomberg. The Cupertino-based company has emerged as the country’s fourth-biggest player, suggesting that iPhones have been the bulk of the demand recovery.
In June this year, domestic companies shipped 24.5 million mobile phones, compared with 24.6 million in the previous year. International companies, on the other hand, rose from 1.1 million units to 3.5 million, data from the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology showed. The data includes regular phones.
As previously reported, the iPhone 13 reigns while the smartphone market falls. The company ranked first in the premium market in the first quarter of 2022 and second in total global sales.
The Counterpoint Research report from last month also shows the iPhone 13’s impact on the Chinese market:
Volume growth in the ultra-premium segment was driven by Apple and Samsung. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro together account for more than two-thirds of ultra-premium sales. This was driven by strong volume growth in the US, China and Western Europe. In China, sales in the price segment > $1,000 grew by 176% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022. This segment alone accounted for more than one-fifth of China’s smartphone market value during the quarter. Apple has been the biggest winner from Huawei’s fall in the premium market. The premium market in China still has potential and will be driven by updates, especially by users from Huawei’s large installed base.
Supply chain insiders have noted the same trend as they expect the iPhone 14 to sell even more.
