IT House July 20 news, as part of WWDC22, Apple announced that iOS 16 will allow third-party accessories that integrate the U1 chip to interact with iPhone applications,Enables a new “hands-free user experience” even when the app is running in the background.

Chipmaker Qorvo said today that the new feature will allow U1-enabled accessories to work with iOS 16 apps to trigger real-time actions based on the user’s precise location,For example, turning on lights or playing music when a user enters a room, even if those apps are not actively being used at the time.

Qorvo also announced that its ultra-wideband (UWB) chip is now certified by Apple’s MFi program, which will pave the way for MFi-certified U1 accessories from third-party brands. Accessory makers can use Qorvo’s chips to make accessories compatible with U1-equipped iPhone and Apple Watch models.

Apple’s own accessories also offer a precise orientation-aware experience. For example, a user can hold a U1-equipped iPhone close to the HomePod mini to “toggle” music playback and provide visual, auditory and haptic effects. U1-enabled iPhones can also take advantage of the Pinpoint feature, which makes it easier to locate AirTag trackers and more.

Apple’s U1 chip, built into iPhone 11 and later, Apple Watch Series 6 and later, HomePod mini, and AirTag, uses ultra-wideband technology for ultra-precise spatial perception at close range.
