Some Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds in-game currencies are convertible into NKT, a cryptocurrency token. Balancing the economy of the game and that which develops outside the game is proving to be laborious and Netmarble is making changes to the play-to-earn model of its mobile MMO.

We know the main problem raised by play-to-earn models: they presuppose reconciling both the economy that develops in the game universe (with its playful stakes) and that which deploys outside the game (with real financial stakes). It is obviously to this problem that Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds have to face.

As we know, the game includes an in-game currency (Territes) which is used to advance your character, improve equipment, advance your pets or practice crafts, but which can also be converted into ” Territe Tokens” (NKT), a crypto-asset tradable on the MARBLEX platform. However, Territes can be earned by playing, for example by completing quests or by facing bumps.
It is easy to understand the problem: some players play to play, but others in the hope of financial gain. Speculators are therefore inclined to farmer play areas (and some obviously use bots to accumulate territes faster), and accumulate currency massively. As a result, the in-game economy goes awry and territe tokens (the cryptocurrency) devalue rapidly.

The studio netmarble is obviously aware of the problem and therefore announces the deployment ofa patch aimed at better regulating the use of Territes. From now on, two currencies will be available in game: Bound Territes which are earned through quests and animations and which can only be used to progress your character (we cannot convert them into NKT) and Unbound Territesconvertible into NKT but only earnable in in-game instances and arenas, geared more towards high-level players.

The developer clarifies that the players will therefore now be able to progress more easily in the game, but above all that fewer Territes from the game will be converted into NKT, thus preserving the value of the token. We also understand that the speculators will have less easy life and that the financial gains will be reserved for the most invested players. While waiting to discover how players will appropriate this new approach to the play-to-earn model of Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, we will remember that finding the right balance between in-game currency and crypto-currency is clearly an art. subtle.
