Well used, smart bulbs can bring a breath of fresh air into the house! Signify, the manufacturer behind the Philips Hue home automation range, is preparing a new function to benefit from natural light throughout the day.

The daylight feature changes the temperature and color of the bulbs throughout the day. We go from an energetic temperature in the morning to warmer and more relaxed colors in the evening, all automatically without the user having to create a scenario. The idea is to reproduce the cycle of the movement of the sun, but at home.

For natural tracking of the sun cycle

Signify is in the process of deploying such an option for its Philips Hue connected bulbs. This function should in fact have appeared last year, but unfortunately it was postponed without anyone knowing when the manufacturer wanted to activate it. It seems that this is now the case: several users were surprised to be able to take advantage of it this week, but without an official announcement.

At the moment, these lucky users’ Hue app is displaying a warning that the feature is not officially supported yet. You have to search with the search engine to find it. Nevertheless, everything is ready, including settings for renaming the function and changing the color and temperatures by hand if desired. Five periods of the day are available, they must last at least 30 minutes.

If the bulbs are on, they will start switching to adaptive mode one minute before the next period. Natural light can be used with White Ambiance and White and Color bulbs. Apple has offered a similar adaptive lighting mode in HomeKit for some time, compatible with Hue products since the end of 2020.
