Italy’s Massimo Stano won the first 35 kilometre walk at a world championships on Sunday when he triumphed by just a second in Eugene. The Olympic champion over 20km completed the course in 2 hours 23.14 seconds, just edging out Japan’s Masatora Kawano. Sweden’s Perseus Karlström picked up bronze, just like in last week’s 20km walk, which was won by Toshikazu Yamanishi. The 35km walk has replaced the 50km race at these championships. The last day of action in Oregon concludes later with the decathlon and seven finals including the 4×400 metre relays.
