A large forest fire broke out in eastern Germany on Monday with a wind farm also affected. The fire spread from an initial area of 10 hectares to about 100 hectares very quickly, the Elbe-Elster district council announced, with the blaze setting light to fields and not just woodland. The fire – between the cities of Leipzig and Cottbus – has been classified as a major incident and about 700 residents of local villages are being prepared for evacuation.
