Facebook is introducing a new way for creators to make money on the platform. Music Revenue Sharing allows creators to monetize their videos that feature licensed music from popular and up-and-coming artists. At the same time, both content creators and music copyright holders can earn money on video.
This feature is managed by a rights manager that helps content owners protect and manage their content at scale. In addition, this feature was born through partnerships in the music industry, benefiting creators, partners, music rights holders, and fans.
How music revenue sharing works
Creators who use this new revenue generating tool should be eligible for both in-stream ads and monetization. Video creators will receive a 20% revenue share of any videos that qualify, with the remainder shared with music and Meta rights holders.
In addition, the video must be at least 60 seconds long and have a visual component. Creators simply cannot post videos with only the most licensed music.
This feature is available today for video creators in the US. In the coming months, Music Revenue Sharing will expand to the rest of the world.
