Competition at the canoe slalom world championships in the German city of Augsburg got under way on Wednesday after worries about a lack of water. The event risked being cancelled with warm weather leaving water levels low in the Lech river, which supplies the artificial course. But the situation stabilized in recent days and allowed the German kayak women to strike gold in the opening team event. Tokyo Olympic winner Ricarda Funk triumphed along with Jasmin Schornberg and Elena Lilik.
