Followers of Iraq’s influential cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Wednesday broke into Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone and parliament building to demand political reforms amid a months-long deadlock in the country, witnesses said. Security officers in the Green Zone – which houses the parliament, government buildings and foreign embassies – fired smoke bombs to disperse the demonstrators, who were nevertheless still able to stream into its streets.
