From September 1, electric scooters will be banned on footpaths, announced infrastructure minister Tomas Eneroth (S).

– Now I can announce that it is over for electric scooters on footpaths, says Tomas Eneroth during the government’s summer coffee.

– It creates an increased risk of accidents. I have witnessed how many elderly and disabled people felt quite a bit of anxiety when electric scooters whizzed by at high speed, he continues.

The Minister of Infrastructure also says that littering with e-scooters is not a “human right”.

– There must be order in the traffic. Now it’s endgame.

The rules mean that fines can be issued for those who drive electric scooters on footpaths.

The decision comes into effect at the same time as the parking ban for electric scooters on footpaths and cycle paths, and with the change the same rules that apply to traditional bicycles will also apply to electric scooters.

– Together, the new rules should improve accessibility and safety for everyone who walks on the footpaths, says Eneroth.
