Today, Apple TV+ premieres its latest drama series, The Surface, starring Gugu Embata-Row as Sophie. Sophie suffers from memory loss, which she believes is caused by trauma from a previous suicide attempt. But as she struggles with amnesia, she discovers that the story she was told may actually not be true.
While the amnesia thriller is commonplace, it’s new to the Apple TV+ library, and the Surface is Apple’s first foray into the genre. The show has plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers hooked, though the overall result is a bit melodramatic.
Mbatha-Row leads the series after her outstanding performance on the first season of The Apple Morning Show. Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays the mysterious husband. The surface is manufactured by Hello Sunshine.
The first three episodes air today, July 29, and the rest of the season airs weekly with new episodes every Friday until September 2.
