All versions of Destiny 2 currently do not allow you to use text chat as Bungie has disabled it. The background seems to be a bug that, when exploited, caused disconnects in the crucible – and thus instant wins for the exploiters.
The developers of the looshooter Destiny 2 disabled text chat on July 31, 2022 on all platforms. The official background: An issue causing Weasel error messages is being investigated. Pretty much all Destiny 2 error messages are related to connection issues, which in turn means that text chat must have been causing players to get kicked out of active sessions.
Shortly thereafter, the developers released the information that background maintenance must be performed on August 1, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. to prepare the servers for Hotfix 4.1.5.2, which in turn will be released on August 2, 2022. Background maintenance on August 1, 2022 is not intended to result in any downtime; in theory you can gamble as normal and continue to save our solar system from darkness.
Disconnects due to spam in text chat
Destiny 2 players (buy now €19.50) alerted the Bungista about the problem via Reddit and Twitter, among others. Destiny player MistyAxe reported on Reddit that there were players flooding the game chat with copypasta attacks. This, in turn, exceeded the chat character limit, causing the game to be disconnected. And in this way, some Guardians are said to have gained advantages in Crucible PvP.
Say: The match in the Crucible loaded and the exploiters flooded the chat with their messages, causing the opponents to be kicked out of the game. The result was probably an instant win. It is not yet known whether Hotfix 4.1.4.2 for Destiny 2 will solve the problem and whether the chat will be switched on again afterwards.
