The Korean manufacturer is launching a new option that secures all your data when you send your smartphone in for repair. An example that all brands should follow…

A fall, a shock and it’s the tragedy: the screen of your smartphone is broken and it must be sent for repair. But this poses a problem, which has already crossed your mind. What about your personal data, this ton of personal photos, these hundreds of messages that you absolutely do not want to share with the stranger who will retype your mobile phone?

Samsung thinks it has found a solution to this thorny concern. Its Korean site has just formalized the upcoming launch of a “repair mode”, which just needs to be activated before sending your mobile to a repairer.

This function is activated as simply as possible: just go to the settings and activate it. The smartphone will then restart and enter this specific mode. From then on, a third party will no longer be able to access the personal data stored on the device. Only the applications installed by default will remain accessible to him, which is particularly practical for carrying out tests before returning it to its owner.

When in France?

When the terminal is received, all you have to do is deactivate the mode by identifying yourself and then restart it to access the data again.

This “repair mode” is (oddly) for the moment only announced on the Galaxy S21, and not the latest products from the manufacturer, which will apparently be served later. It is, moreover, only available in South Korea, but other countries should logically follow.

It is in any case an excellent initiative which allows you to calmly entrust your smartphone without having to reset it. Apple recommends for example to erase his phone before sending it to his technicians. Like Google, which asks its customers to restore the factory configuration. Let’s hope that this little find from Samsung will encourage them to break out the photocopier…
