If the following rumors are true, we’re seeing a massive leap in performance from the RTX 4000.

In the past few days there has been some movement in the rumor mill with a view to the upcoming new graphics cards from Nvidia. They were all about the performance. Where is the RTX 4000 going? How fast will the new accelerators compare to the current models from the RTX 3000 series? In short: What’s new from Nvidia?

Assumed benchmark results for RTX 4080 and RTX 4070

Strictly speaking, the first rumor is not a rumor in the usual sense, but an assumption. Or rather: an extrapolation of potential performance data based on the previously assumed specifications of the RTX 4000 series. Specifically, it is about the models RTX 4080 and RTX 4070.

However, they only gain importance through the fact that they come from one of the world’s best-known hardware leakers. kopite7kimi has built a reputation over the years as a particularly accurate source of unpublished information. That was particularly the case with the RTX 2000 and RTX 3000. So what does he say about RTX 4080 and RTX 4070?

RTX 4080 significantly faster than RTX 3090 Ti

The leaker assumes a result of more than 15,000 points for the RTX 4080 (Graphics Score) in 3D Mark Time Spy Extreme (TSE). The benchmark determines the performance in 4K resolution. Compared to current top models from Nvidia such as the RTX 3090 Ti, this is an extremely high number of points.

To put that in perspective: The most overclocked RTX 3090 Ti scored 14,611 points and is currently up #1 leaderboard for the 3D Mark Time Spy Extreme. A typical RTX 3090 comes to around 9,000 to 9,500 points, a non-overclocked RTX 3090 Ti to 10,000 to 10,500 points.

RTX 4070 on par with RTX 3090

kopite7kimi already expects these 10,000 points from the new generation of the RTX 4070. Models of the xx70 series typically represent the (upper) middle class at Nvidia. That would also be a considerable leap and fits with previous rumours, which even promise the biggest leap in performance for decades.

At the request of the colleagues from Videocardz kopite7kimi also replies that the figures mentioned are not exclusively estimates, but does not elaborate further.

RTX 4070 Ti should be able to easily keep up with RTX 3090 Ti

The second and this time genuine rumor also came from kopite7kimi and concerns the possible RTX 4070 Ti:

The RTX 4070 Ti should therefore have up to 400 watts of power and it along with 7,680 FP32 cores easy can record with the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 3090 Ti comes standard with a TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 450 watts, which, conversely, speaks for better efficiency of the new graphics cards. This should essentially result from the reduction in structure widths and general improvements in microarchitecture.

Well available: RTX cards at Amazon

Nevertheless, the once again significantly increased power consumption is likely to be one of the most critical points of the RTX 4000 series – the same applies to AMD’s upcoming RX 7000 models. Nvidia’s RTX-3000 and AMD’s RX-6000 series already broke the previous limit of 250 watts for graphics cards with a single graphics chip.

What do you say about the alleged and assumed performance data of the RTX 4000 series? Do you think the cards will really get that much faster, or do you expect more moderate performance gains? Write it to us in the comments!
