Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in a recent edition of his newsletter that “at least four new smart home devices are being developed in Apple’s labs.” However, not all of them will see the light of day.
According to the journalist, the Cupertino company is preparing a new HomePod. The device is codenamed B620 and will be powered by the S8 chip that will power the Apple Watch Series 8.
In addition, the speaker will allegedly be closer “in terms of size and sound quality” to the original HomePod than its mini version. As for the latter, Gurman confirmed work on it as well.
The journalist also described two devices that may see the light of day:
- kitchen model that combines iPad and HomePod;
- a living room device that is a hybrid of Apple TV, HomePod and camera.
Gurman notes that one of the devices will be released in late 2023 or early 2024. New developments will help Apple compete with Amazon Echo and Amazon Show.
