EVO 2022 is now over. In addition to the numerous exciting matches, the event also brought some announcements about the various offshoots of the fighting game genre. For example, we may have received a first teaser for Tekken 8, but a franchise that had almost been forgotten also made an appearance.
Finally a new Fatal Fury is coming!
Many fighting games keep getting new offshoots, for example we have now arrived at Street Fighter 6, King of Fighters 15, and Mortal Kombat 11, but not all representatives of the genre share this fate. Fatal Fury received its final spin-off in 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The game still enjoys some popularity today, but many players have long wanted a new installment in the series.
The developer studio SNK has now probably heard these wishes, because for this year’s EVO SNK announced that they are working on a new game in the Fatal Fury series. This announcement was accompanied by a first teaser, which, however, does not offer any view of the gameplay, the plot, or the like. However, the new title is said to represent a new “turning point” for fighting games. So the developers definitely have big plans for their new game.
Big plans are definitely needed as well, after all they have some expectations of the players to fulfill. 1991’s Fatal Fury: King of Fighters got gamers excited when all eyes were on Street Fighter 2. Fatal Fury was able to assert itself with the quite interesting concept and finally brought forth the King of Fighters series, which is still popular today.
