Oppo and OnePlus no longer sell their smartphones in Germany. It has become impossible to buy a telephone from one of these two brands (owned by the BBK group) in the online stores of these manufacturers, the website of Oppo resembling a ghost town.

At the origin of this disappearance, a complaint filed by Nokia: the Finnish equipment manufacturer accuses the two manufacturers of infringements of essential patents on 5G. Neither Oppo nor OnePlus would have paid royalties for the use of these inventions, which was confirmed (twice) by the Munich court.

Smartphones from Oppo and OnePlus are still available from other retailers, probably while supplies last. At Oppo, it is indicated that it is always possible to use a product of the brand ” without restriction support is still available and future updates will still be offered.

A OnePlus spokesperson said the company is working with Nokia to resolve the dispute, while lamenting ” the requirement of an excessively high fee from the equipment manufacturer (it would be €1.50 per device). Oppo had already agreed with Nokia on the subject of FRAND patents (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory), but the deal expired in 2018.

These two companies weigh heavily across the Rhine, in fact they hold a combined market share of around 10% in the smartphone segment. Nokia is also suing Vivo for the same issue.
