Recently, initial statements have already suggested that the release of Overwatch 2 will no longer continue with the first part. This has now been officially confirmed by the developers.

The PvP component of Overwatch 2 is scheduled to be available from October 4, 2022 and will be based on a free-to-play model. This means that the sequel is also freely accessible to anyone interested – which is why the first part will actually be superfluous. Blizzard Entertainment has now officially confirmed this again, after recent statements had previously suggested this.

So the developer studio now left Stephen Totilo, a journalist for axios writes, to provide a statement regarding the matter, which reads: “Our goal is not to divide our player base and to make the transition to Overwatch 2 as seamless as possible. When Overwatch 2 is released as a live service game in free-to -Play format releases on October 4, 2022, it will replace the current Overwatch version. Content players have unlocked in Overwatch will automatically carry over to Overwatch 2.”

Various developers had previously discussed the subject in one Reddit AMA spoken, including Game Director Aaron Keller. Due to the clarifying statement above, there is now official clarity in this regard.

Overwatch 2 will be able to access the content of the first part in the PvP part, and will also be expanded to include new heroes and maps. The launch is planned for October 4, 2022 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC and Switch.
