A Turkish court ordered access to be blocked to the websites of German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) and those of US-based Voice of America (VOA) after both failed to apply for online broadcasting licences. The court’s decision came upon a request from the Turkish Broadcasting Authority (RTÜK). The authority argued on Friday that the move was in line with a law that gives the government far-reaching control over the media.
