After a small campaign on KickStarter and several months of testing, the MMORPG Past Fate will launch its open alpha on August 15, in anticipation of early access on the 27th of the same month. The game aims to return to basics.
Just two years ago, indie developer Icy North Games launched a modest crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter (up to $25,000) to finance at least part of the design of Past Fate. The campaign was narrowly validated, but was obviously enough to materialize a first playable version of the MMORPG.
Since the end of last year, Past Fate has been in a closed alpha but starting this August 15, the test servers will welcome more players as part of an open alpha, then an early access must follow the August 27th (if the open alpha is conclusive enough). For the moment, the developer does not yet specify the terms of access to the open alpha, but the studio invites the curious to join the Discord server of the project and to add Past Fate to its “wish list” on Steam.
For the record, Past Fate is presented as an MMORPG open-world inviting players to explore a world fantasy full of secrets and mysteries to discover. The game relies on action gameplay, while developing synergies between playable classes (Necromancer, Pirate, Warrior, Mage and Priest) and boasts both PvE and PvP game mechanics. As part of the early access, which should last two years, the developer promises quests and world bumpsdungeons (for five players) and a first raid for 25 players, but also battlefields for PvP enthusiasts (the game is based on faction wars).
In terms of business model, the open alpha of Past Fate should be a real test, but the early access will be distributed according to a buy-to-play model.
