The reputation of the publisher Electronic Arts has suffered greatly in recent years. Especially in the core gamer community, EA is for greedy loot box models, like in the Fifa series and known for releasing unfinished games full of bugs. Here you can name, for example, Battlefield 2042 or the non-starter Anthem. Lately the top floor of EA is said to be working on to sell the company. A tweet from the company mocking single-player gamers backfired so badly that they even later apologized.
EA makes fun of single player gamers
The Electronic Arts social media team wrote on Twitter. “You are a 10 but only enjoy playing single player games”. The tweet seems particularly out of place when you consider that EA had a huge success with games like Mass Effect or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. A Disney television series and a sequel are even planned for the latter.
The tweet not only pissed off the fans, several industry giants also didn’t think the tweet was a good idea. That’s how he reacted Head of Respawn Entertainment Vince Zampella just with a facepalm emoji. But also Game Awards host Geoff Keighley seemed unenthusiastic and responded with the article “Can a Computer Make You Cry”. The tweet now has over 2,500 replies, most of which shower the company with malicious remarks.
EA publicly apologizes
Four hours after the publication of the first post, the company apologized. “We deserved that. We see that as an L[oose]because playing single player games actually makes them an 11”, they write flippantly. Apparently, the social media team dared to take a look at their own range of games. After all, the publisher wants to unveil some new games soon, hopefully they will be better than their tweets.
