If you only play Pokémon Go, you’ll probably feel really screwed at this point: The newly introduced Daily Adventure Smoke, which is now available to all players, attracts rare Pokémon, sometimes even legendary ones! These include Galar Zapdos, Galar Lavados, and Galar Arktos. But as usual, Niantic doesn’t give you anything. The catch rate of the legendary birds is extremely low. Even with Golden Raspberries and Hyper Ball, the bird’s trapping circle will still show up in shades of red, and once the Pokémon breaks free, it’ll flee immediately. But why? And is it always like this?

That’s what some trainers have been asking since the introduction of the daily adventure smoke, and the developers at Niantic are quite cryptic in their official explanation: “These mysterious Pokémon are attracted to the daily adventure smoke, but they are quite difficult to catch. You can try Using items like Raspberries to increase your chance of catching Luckily tomorrow you’ll get another Daily Adventure Smoke […]”Yeah wow, thanks for not explaining. So it’s up to the original Pokemon fans to explain the Wandering Pokemon main series concept!

The concept of wandering Pokémon

If you’ve played GameFreak’s Pokémon games, you’ll be familiar with them. Fleeing Pokemon have always been a nightmare because as soon as you use a move, the Pokemon will flee. Or, as in Pokémon Go, after a failed ball throw. Fleeing Pokémon roam the regions where they live, and it takes a bit of effort to be right where the rare Mon are. And then it takes a bit of luck to keep the Pokémon in the ball.

While you could still use abilities and attacks in the main series to stop the Pokémon from escaping, there is no such option in Pokémon Go. Unfortunately, you have to accept that Wanderpokémon is not an absolutely new, “stupid” idea to scare players away, but a concept from the main series that is many years old.

Which fleeing Pokemon are there?

The adventure smoke was only recently introduced, and accordingly, the concept of the fleeing Pokémon hasn’t been around in Pokémon Go all that long. You can currently encounter the legendary birds Galar Arktos (Psycho/Flying instead of Ice/Flying), Galar Zapdos (Fighting/Flying instead of Electric/Flying) and Galar Lavados (Dark/Flying instead of Fire/Flying).

Fleeing Main Line Pokemon

Whether all fleeing mainline Pokémon can ever be caught via Adventure Smoke is questionable. Because some of them already existed through research breakthroughs and in raids, and the escape rate seemed normal in Pokémon Go; unlike now the Galar versions of the legendary birds. Nevertheless, we have created a list for you, because as the saying goes: Hope dies last. By the way, this concept of the fleeing Pokémon has only existed since the 2nd generation! While you could still catch Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres at fixed locations, it wasn’t possible to go out later with other legendary Pokémon!

  • 2nd generation – Entei, Raikou and Suicune
  • 3rd Generation – Latias and Latios
  • 4th generation – Mesprit and Cresselia
  • 5th Generation – Boreos and Voltolos
  • 8th generation – Galar-Arktos, Galar-Zapdos and Galar-Lavados
