Researchers at the American university MIT have developed a kind of stamp-sized stickers that can perform the same tasks that doctors today use ultrasound machines for.

The ultrasound stickers can be attached to a person’s body and then continuously take ultrasound images that show what is happening in the body. The battery in the sticker is enough to take ultrasound images for 48 hours. Currently, the sticker must be connected via cables to a receiver of the images. However, the researchers are working on developing a variant that could transmit the images wirelessly to a receiver nearby.

The researchers state that their stickers could already be used today in hospitals, for example, to take ultrasound images of patients. If in the future it were possible to develop a variant that worked wirelessly, they could also be used by patients in their own homes and then perhaps be able to be bought directly from pharmacies.

In the video above, you can take a closer look at how the ultrasound stickers work.
