Germany and Nigeria paved the way for the artefacts known as the Benin Bronzes to be returned with a joint declaration on Friday. Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Culture Minister Claudia Roth signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria’s Culture Minister Lai Mohammed and Foreign Affairs Minister Zubairu Dada that will pass the ownership rights of the art works to Nigeria.
