Apple founder and first CEO Steve Jobs will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is stated on the website of the White House.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award in the United States, given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the prosperity, values, or security of the nation, world peace, or other important public or private endeavours.

“Steve Jobs was the co-founder, CEO and chairman of Apple, CEO of Pixar, and held a leadership role at The Walt Disney Company. His vision, imagination and creativity have led to inventions that have changed and continue to change the way the world communicates, as well as transforming the computer, music, film and wireless industries.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 7 at the White House.
