Over the years, more and more of these services are being removed from Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, forcing users to switch to more modern platforms (like the Nintendo Switch).
Crunchyroll is one of them: from August 29, 2022, Wii U users will no longer be able to use the official app to watch their favorite anime on the console. Additionally, the email sent to subscribers explains that it will be delisted from the Nintendo eShop on the same day, although it appears the app is no longer available via the web eShop (see below).
NicoNico also withdraws. The app was released for Nintendo 3DS in 2014 in Japan. But all good things must come to an end, and Dwango has announced the service will be discontinued on Nintendo 3DS next March. As of March 31, 2023, the NicoNico app on Nintendo 3DS will cease to function and will no longer be available for download (due to Nintendo shutting down the Nintendo eShop on the same day). Before that, the sale of premium NicoNico tickets on Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS will end on September 12. And finally, YouTube. The app is no longer available for download on the Wii U, but if you’ve already downloaded it to your console, you can continue to use it until October.
If you want to continue using Crunchyroll, YouTube and/or NicoNico on a game console, you can download the Nintendo Switch version of the apps from Nintendo eShop (NicoNico is only available in Japan).
