Playstation and Xbox are slower. Nintendo is catching on to the trend.
We recently reported that Xbox hardware is down 11 percent compared to last year, while the PS5 with its total of 21.7 million consoles sold is only a slight boost. It’s slower.
Nintendo can sign off on this. 111 million Switch consoles sold is a great milestone, but 3.43 million units sold in the quarter is a drop of 22.9 percent compared to last year. Game sales are also declining. 41.41 million games sold mark a drop of 8.6 percent.
Switch is now approaching Game Boy (and Color) with its 118 million. Worst in the Nintendo class is the Nintendo DS with 154 million. It’s a long way to go, but the Game Boy isn’t terribly far away.
During the quarter (April through June) there were some joys, such as four million sellers. Nintendo Switch Sports may not be a new one Wii Sports, but 4.84 million is respectable. Like 1.91 million sold Mario Strikers: Battle League and 1.88 million additional copies of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. In total, the game has sold 4.53 million.
And the last million seller…? Unsurprisingly, it is about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which sold 1.48 million copies and is now up to 46.82 million in total. About 40 percent of Switch people own the game.
