One of the new features introduced in macOS Ventura and iOS 16 is a feature that lets you use your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac. It is included in the current beta but is intended for use with custom mounts made by third parties such as Belkin.
The company has developed a MagSafe-enabled mount that lets you mount your iPhone in the optimal location on your Mac for use as a webcam. Although the mount has yet to be released to the general public, several YouTubers have been able to test it.
Brian Tong, iJustine and ZolloTech showed prototypes of a mount that looks deceptively simple. It attaches to the back of the iPhone, and a small plastic tab on the back rests against the top of the MacBook.
When the mount is properly installed on the Mac, the Continuity Camera feature is automatically activated and the laptop switches to the iPhone’s camera.
Continuity Camera has a number of options to take advantage of, including Center Stage to keep the person in the frame, Portrait Mode to blur the background, Studio Light to adjust the lighting, and Desk View, a unique feature that uses an ultra wide-angle lens to showcase the desktop.
The accessory from Belkin is likely to be ready for release along with the release of macOS Ventura and iOS 16 in a few months.
