The wild west, endless expanses. The year is 1899. These are the adventures of spieletipps editor Johannes, who travels with his trusty steed to distil schnapps, hunt and collect bounties. Many hours of play later, he takes a look at his pocket catalog and realizes that there is nothing worth buying anymore.

Rockstar, we need to talk (again)!

Just recently I complained that GTA 5 after eight years and releases for three generations of consoles in single player mode too some online content could handle. The main problem: With Franklin, Trevor and Michael I’m sitting on a huge pile of GTA dollars that I don’t know how to spend. However, this problem is not limited to GTA 5.

No – Red Dead Online is also affected. And that bothers me. I love Red Dead Online. I’ve already spent almost 120 hours on the wide prairies of New Austin, the dense forests of Ambarino and the busy streets of Saint Denis. And I have to say: it’s damn impressive.

Yes, due to the still prevailing graphics card shortage, I’m sitting on a rickety GTX 960 graphics card as a substitute, which is only able to render the game with insultingly poor graphics (please help!). And yet Red Dead Online managed to convert me almost 5 full days to be captivated. But unfortunately the poor graphics performance of my PC is not the biggest fun killer for Red Dead Online.

120 Hours of Play in Red Dead Online – Now What?

After the relatively short playing time, I achieved everything I wanted to achieve. My western alter ego owns a luxurious camp complete with a dog and a trading post, a fully stocked moonshine operation with a pompous bar downstairs, and a bounty hunter’s license. My stable is stocked with steeds of the finest quality, and my personal arsenal of weapons would make some warlords green with envy.

But what now? What should I spend my money on next? My weapons look the way they should, my horses are trimmed and groomed, and I have an outfit for every season and climate. I could keep raking in money as a bootlegger, bounty hunter, collector or trader – but what’s the point? (No, the tedious work of being a naturalist is NOT an option!)

The few story missions that the online mode has to offer were also eaten up quickly. Even the regular treasure hunt is almost no longer worthwhile. With a carrot in front of your nose Red Dead Online was another grind that was incredibly fun. Now those goals that drive me are missing.

Rockstar seems to be neglecting its western project. The PC version still has glitches here and there that need to be ironed out. And if even that doesn’t work, why should you? hoping for new content? It’s exactly what I’m currently missing in Red Dead Online: content.

More missions, more items to buy, and more jobs to pursue. And I’m not talking about that almost unlovingly spat Outlaw Pass #5, which is not only an absolute disappointment for me. Many of the items to be gotten are either not worthwhile or just plain ugly. At least you can gradually earn back the gold you paid for.

Rockstar: Overdone on GTA – too cautious on Red Dead?

I can understand that Rockstar might be a bit more cautious about new content with Red Dead Online than with GTA Online. Thanks to all the rocket bikes and war machines, Los Santos isn’t the same place it was in 2013. And at Red Dead Redemption is an immersive game world much more important for the gaming experience than in GTA.

But there are still a few possibilities that I could well imagine in a western scenario. Railway entrepreneur, plantation owner or timber baron – all these jobs would also fit the setting of the game. And if you’re always just the right hand of a mogul in one of those areas – I don’t care! give Me. More. JOB!

The opportunities to spend money are exhausted relatively quickly. I don’t need every breed of horse when I already have a horse of my own for each purpose. Better let me buy some more carts to hitch my hoofed comrades to! Also a pair of boats, a house or a secret cave hideout would be a great change.

And yes, I know – that’s complaining on a high level. But Red Dead Online is too beautiful a game to just let die for lack of new content. After all, that would not only be in my interest.
