Telekom reports that more than 300,000 new households are now able to surf the Internet with at least 100 Mbit/s.

Since mid-2021 there have been around 29.3 million stationary Internet connections throughout Germany that are – theoretically – gigabit-capable. Both the cable connections according to Docsis 3.1 and the fiber optic cables are combined here. According to Deutsche Telekom, another 386,000 households can now surf the Internet at at least 100 Mbit/s. A total of 34.4 million households in Germany now have a stationary Internet connection with at least 100 Mbit/s.

FTTH expansion by Deutsche Telekom is 3.9 million households

According to the press release, the number of fiber optic households is 3.9 million, at least in the fiber optic networks that Telekom has expanded. In Germany itself, the number of fiber optic connections is over 10 million. The new Telecommunications Act has been in force in Germany since December 2021, which includes a right to fast internet. According to the law, this means 10 Mbit/s in download and 1.3 Mbit/s in upload. In the USA there is also a right to fast Internet, whereby the download rate here should soon be at least 100 Mbit/s.

At Vodafone, Telekom’s competitor, the problems are currently piling up. In the past quarter, Vodafone has struggled with a decline in customers and sales. There are now 34,000 fewer cable network customers at Vodafone Germany. With DSL contracts, Vodafone had to accept a decline of 30,000 customers.
