Paying members of Spotify Premium get their own play button. With the new function, the Swedes want to react to criticism.
In the first quarter of 2022 alone, the audio streaming service Spotify had 182 million paying premium members. So far, the advantage for paying users over free users has been limited to offline use and the freedom from advertising, combined with unlimited skipping. Now the Swedish company has announced a change for all premium users, which will be distributed in waves in the coming weeks. Premium subscribers get their own play and shuffle buttons. Both buttons can then be used by Premium members anywhere in the Spotify app.
Spotify responds to criticism with a change
With this change, the music streaming pioneer is responding to criticism. After all, artists want their album to be heard in a certain order. So far, this was not easily possible with Spotify, since there was only one play button including shuffle playback when playing albums, for example. With the update there is a separation between the free users and the paying users. In addition to the free Spotify Free, which is financed by commercial breaks, there is also various paid subscriptions:
- Spotify Premium Individual: This gives access to all Spotify content without commercial breaks. There is also the option to download music and play it offline within the Spotify app. Cost point: 9.99 euros per month.
- Spotify Premium Duo: This subscription includes everything that the Premium Individual membership offers, but for two users with different Spotify accounts. There is also a playlist called Duo Mix, which is automatically created and consists of songs that both premium users like. Cost point: 12.99 euros per month.
- Spotify Premium Family: This subscription includes everything that the premium individual membership offers, but for six users, each with their own Spotify user accounts. There is also a playlist called Family Mix, which is automatically created and consists of songs that all Family Premium users like.
