This unexpected merger between two major players in gaming will give birth to a portable console. Announced compatible with several cloud gaming services as soon as it is released, it will be presented before the end of the year.

The famous brand Logitech and the Chinese giant Tencent announce a cloud gaming partnership. This announcement, which we did not really expect, was confirmed by the two groups and necessarily arouses curiosity. The two firms intend to “advancing cloud gaming on portable consoles” by co-developing a portable game console dedicated to cloud gaming.

Upon release, the new machine will support “several cloud gaming services”. The two companies ensure that they work with the teams of the Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. On the other hand, the Google Stadia platform, which no longer really gives any sign of life, does not seem to be programmed. For Tencent and the gaming arm of Logitech, the goal is for “players can play AAA games when they are away from their console or PC”.

A collaboration with Microsoft and Nvidia, but no technical information

Unfortunately, we have to be satisfied with the discourse of the two firms which do not bring no technical details. We don’t know the format of the future console either, although we can expect the influence of the Switch to be felt. Since the release of the hybrid console, many manufacturers have taken up this format to launch PC/portable console hybrids.

In contrast, nothing is known about the components of this machine who shouldn’t be a power freak. Its goal is to run games through cloud gaming services, not locally. It should therefore not compete with the Switch or the Steam Deck. One of the console’s key arguments could be the connectivity to enhance the player experience.

AAA games and a release before the end of the year

On paper, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chip that Qualcomm unveiled last year with Razer seems relevant to us. Dedicated to video games, it can take place in a console and works with a sufficiently powerful Adreno GPU. For now, Logitech and Tencent are touting the merits of cloud gaming and giving see you before the end of the year. The marketing of this portable console must begin “during the year”.

Currently, Logitech simply offers to subscribe to a newsletter to learn more about the “Logitech G Gaming Handbled”.
