IT House July 4 news, Taiwan Economic Daily said that due to the continuous shortage of global network communication chips, coupled with the sharp rise in chip quotations from leading American manufacturers, customers could not obtain chips as scheduled even if they accepted the price increase. Therefore, some telecom customers in Europe and the United States asked Netcom factories to change the terminal design and use MediaTek and Realtek chips instead.
According to industry sources, the telecommunications industry used to use chips from leading American manufacturers, and communication operators designed and manufactured products such as xDSL, optical client, IAD integrated access equipment, and IP STB set-top boxes. Resisting the price increase of chips from the leading factory but unable to deliver them, operators are required to change the design and use chips from MediaTek, Realtek and other manufacturers.
IT Home understands that MediaTek stated that it does not comment on customer-related orders. Realtek said that the company continues to optimize its product portfolio and strive for more cooperation from clients.
Industry insiders pointed out that the delivery period of chips from major international manufacturers has been extended, and they are more focused on higher-end enterprise-level products, which makes MediaTek and other opportunities to take advantage. Since the beginning of this year, it has indeed been reported that some manufacturers have begun to have the idea of changing chips because they do not want to wait for the delivery of international manufacturers, but it is estimated that the delivery time will not wait until the second half of this year at the earliest.
