In recent days, Google has started rolling out a new version of the Duo app that gets the Meet treatment — that is, the app is now called Meet and has been given a new icon.
Users will receive a notice explaining the change, such as gaining access to “both video calling and meeting capabilities.” The latter, however, requires you to log in with a Google account. The original Google Meet app has been updated to “Meet (original)” with a green icon. This app will eventually disappear.
Meanwhile, Google Meet branding is coming to duo.google.com, but there are no changes in functionality yet. In the next few months, the web app will redirect to meet.google.com/calling.

Google Duo and Meet become one app
Will be called Meet
When it comes to communication apps, Google has for many years had problems focusing on one product to be able to compete with, for example, FaceTime or iMessage. Now they are trying to fix it, at least for video calls, because now Duo and Meet will become one. Duo is disappearing so it is Meet that will apply in the future. Google writes that it will add all the features of Meet to the Duo app in the coming weeks, so users can, for example, schedule a video call at a time that works for everyone, or continue using video calls to instantly connect with a person or group . Later this year, the Duo app will be renamed Meet.
