The second largest games event after Gamescom will take place in Schleswig-Holstein in 2022: The Gamevention 2022 will take place in Neumünster.

July 4, 2022 update: Gamevention organizer Oliver Welling draws an almost euphoric reminiscence in the GamesWirtschaft interview: On the first weekend in July, around 25,000 visitors made the pilgrimage to the Holstenhallen in Neumünster. A colorful mix of e-sports, cosplay, games, concerts, a medieval market and information stands from associations and institutions was on offer.

“Still Flashed” Welling is that two new ministers from the state of Schleswig-Holstein have made their inaugural visits to the Gamevention: Economics Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (independent) and Head of the State Chancellery Dirk Schrödter (CDU) originally only planned to say a word of welcome, but ultimately stayed up for several hours the terrain.

“Schleswig-Holstein stands for innovation and digitization”said Schrödter after his visit. “With the Gamevention, our country is now also sending out strong signals for gaming and e-sports.”

Due to the positive feedback from exhibitors, visitors and the state government, Welling is already planning for the coming season: The Gamevention 2023 is to take place at the same location.

May 27, 2022 update: A few weeks before the premiere of the Gamevention, the organizers published the list of game manufacturers who are represented with their products at the gaming festival:

the day tickets are between €39 and €49 depending on the day of the week; the weekend ticket is available for €99. Children under 10 years have free entry.

Update February 10, 2022: Almost four and a half months before the start of Gamevention 2022 (July 1st to 3rd), preparations for the Games Festival are in full swing.

One of the focal points is the topic of e-sports, which in Schleswig-Holstein is also politically supported more intensively than in any other federal state. Consequently, Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP) has taken over the patronage.

A dedicated, seven-member e-sports advisory board is also to provide technical support to the organizer team:

“E-sport is a very complex and multifaceted topic”says We Love Esports Managing Director Oliver Welling. “It is very important to us that the Gamevention Festival offers electronic sports content in a way that fits the community and its values. We would also like to focus on topics such as holistic approach, sustainability and scientific foundation.”

Message from August 26, 2021: With a mix of e-sports, stage program, community and cosplay, the Gamevention 2019 attracted almost 10,000 visitors to the Hamburg exhibition halls. Then Corona came. For the restart, the organizers are planning on much larger dimensions – and for this purpose are moving almost 70 kilometers further north to the small town of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein with 80,000 inhabitants.

The Gamevention 2022 is to take place in the Holstenhallen there on the first weekend in July (July 1st to 3rd, 2022 – at the same time as the start of the summer holidays in the north) – on the entire indoor and outdoor area with around 85,000 square meters.

  • The state championships are also planned FIFA, League of Legends and rocket leaguea Counter Strike-Tournament against Denmark, e-sports coaching, lectures and information stands from associations and teams.
  • There will also be a colorful cosplay program with demonstrations and costume competitions, cabaret artists and comic and manga stations.
  • A large medieval market with traders, jugglers, jugglers, shamans, ax throwers, archery, Hun camps and horsemen, medieval cuisine, weaving and much more has what it takes to be a crowd puller.
  • According to the announcement, fans of Live Action Role Playing (LARP) can look forward to one of the largest LARP areas in Germany.
  • Also on stage are bands and artists such as Schandmaul, Faun, The Sultan, Batteries of Rock, Gun called Britney, Execute, Abwärts, Ripe & Ruin, Mythemia and Vogelfrey.
  • Other attractions on site: Police, fire brigade and THW emergency vehicles plus show cars and cosplay vehicles.

Access to all areas is included in the entrance fee. Tickets are already available in advance:

  • Friday or Sunday 39 euros
  • Saturday 49 euros
  • Three-day ticket 99 euros

The organizer is WeLoveEsports GmbH. Their managing director Oliver Welling is convinced: “We made excellent use of the two-year Corona break to create a new multiverse for our visitors: a new location, twelve times more space and even more topics and content are the best prerequisites for reaching a large audience.”

According to Welling, the fact that the Gamevention is moving from Hamburg to Schleswig-Holstein is also due to the general conditions: “We were welcomed here with open arms.”

Specifically, the organizers can count on the active support of the state government: “The festival offers an interface for the economic topics of digitization, creative industries, innovation, training and technology”praised Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP). “Gaming is an often underestimated innovation driver in digitization – so we are proud to win this festival for our state.”

Secretary of State for the Interior Kristina Herbst (CDU) is also hoping for impulses for Schleswig-Holstein with regard to tourism: “This is a great enrichment for our country in the gaming, culture and eSports segments. In this way, we offer all active market participants a perfect platform for reaching out to the young generation in particular and standing up for them. With the first official state center for e-sports and digitization in Germany in Kiel and the e-sports divisions in the clubs that we support, we are at the forefront of this topic. The fact that the Gamevention is now coming to us in Schleswig-Holstein proves once again our innovative strength and the future prospects we have in this area.”

Gamevention creator Welling is convinced: “I’m sure that we will stage an event with a unique character in Schleswig-Holstein and will offer the second largest event in this segment in Germany after Gamescom from 2022. A celebration for the young audience and the whole family.”

In addition to the private visitor program, there will be a business day in cooperation with partners such as the Reeperbahn Festival, where everything revolves around “music and gaming”.
