There are still quite a few muscle cars for sale and at the top are Dodge’s classic Charger and Challenger – now with more roaring V8 horses than ever before. But it really won’t look like that when the next generation of the models appears. They will then only run on electricity and will not have a single cylinder under the hood. Today’s Charger and Challenger have been around for 11 and 14 years respectively now, and in 2024 it’s time for the next generation to take over. What these will offer in terms of performance and the like remains to be seen, but if they are to be able to satisfy the customer base properly, there must be something in the horse’s way.

The next Dodge Challenger will be electrified
No more V8s with 700 horses
Mike Manley took over as CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles after the sudden passing of Sergio Marchionne last summer. Now Mike announces that anyone expecting the next Dodge Challenger to top what’s available today and be offered with an even worse monster V8 will be disappointed. Here, too, they will steer towards electrification. “I think that electrification will certainly be part of the formula that says what is American muscle in the future. What it isnx27t going to be is a V-8, supercharged, 700-horsepower engine. New technology is going to drive a load of weight out, so we can think of the powertrains in a different way. And we can use electrification to really supplement those vehicles.” The Värsting Challenger SRT Demon offers as much as 850 horses and is probably as much muscle car as it can get. But this will change in the future, which was certainly expected. The next worst thing version of the Challenger will certainly offer a lot of power, but in a different way. The model will also be based on a new platform and the hottest candidate is the Giorgio plate on which the Alfa Romeo Giulia is based.

Now here it is – the world’s most powerful SUV
Bizarre colossus with 720 horses
After the image leak yesterday, Dodge now presents the Durango SRT Hellcat. It is a muscle SUV with a whopping 720 horses under the hood, which means that this is the world’s most powerful SUV to roll out from a car manufacturer. The power comes from the now proven supercharged V8 of 6.2 liters. The torque is stated at 874 newton meters and the machine is connected to an eight-speed automatic that drives all four wheels. 0-100 km/h should go in just over 3.5 seconds and the top speed is stated at 290 km/h. It does the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds. You can hang up to 3946 kilos on the towbar, so this will be a perfect caravan tow truck this summer! The version also gets sportier suspension and 20-inch rims shod with Pirelli Scorpion Zero rubber. Inside these are Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers and 401 millimeter discs. Behind is a four-piston caliper that grips 351 millimeter discs. The inside gets a dashboard reminiscent of the one sitting in the Challenger. The center console has a new gear selector and a 10.1-inch screen for the infotainment system. The steering wheel is flat at the bottom and behind it are gear paddles. The chairs are a bit sportier with better side support and covered in Nappa leather with suede inserts. The car will arrive at dealers at the beginning of next year, the order books will open this autumn. However, what you have to pay is not clear at the moment. Other news on the Dodge front is that the Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye has been unveiled. It is an even sharper version of the Hellcat that offers a whopping 808 horses and 958 newton meters. Dodge describes this with the words “world’s most powerful and fastest mass-produced sedan” and it does 0-100 km/h in around 3.5 seconds, tops out at 326 km/h and completes the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds. The Redeye only comes in Widebody design, and the wheel arches have 20-inchers covered with 305/35 tires. Dodge also rolls out the Challenger SRT Super Stock and it delivers a whopping 819 horses. Read more about that madman here.
