TechCrunch reports that Uber has now launched a feature that allows UK Uber users to also book trains and buses through the Uber app.

Uber’s new feature is a collaboration with the international travel service Omio, a service that collaborates with over a thousand transport companies in 37 different countries. Omio also offers trips via ferries and flights, but initially it will only be possible to book trips by bus and train via Omio’s collaboration with Uber.

There is so far no information on whether Uber plans to start offering trips with other modes of travel than their own vehicles in other markets in the future. But it is not at all impossible that this will be the case.

Uber is adding planes, trains, buses and rental cars to its app

Plans to also offer hotel bookings in the future

Uber in the UK will now add the ability for their users to book travel by plane, train or bus as well as the ability to book rental cars in the Uber app. In the future, the company also aims to include the possibility of booking hotels in its app. The idea behind this is that Uber’s app should work as a universal app for all types of travel, says Uber’s UK manager Jamie Heywood. However, Uber will not themselves start tinkering with transport by plane, train or bus. Instead, these services are provided by other companies that Uber has started working with in the UK. Heywood tells CNBC: “You have been able to book rides, bikes, boat services and scooters on the Uber app for a number of years, so adding trains and coaches is a natural progression. Later this year we plan to incorporate flights, and in the future hotels, by integrating leading partners into the Uber app to create a seamless door-to-door travel experience.” Whether Uber in other countries plans to include other companies’ transport and hotels in its app, there is so far no information.
