Blizzard is orchestrating a serious offensive on the mobile platform front. After testing the water temperature with the deck of cards Hearthstone a few years ago, the studio launched Diablo Immortal with the success that we know. The company’s pipes are full with a recently announced Warcraft Arclight Rumble (and which will happen when it does).
But Blizzard had another mobile game based on the World of Warcraft universe in the works for three years… and which will never be released, according to Bloomberg. This derivative of the famous MMORPG would be developed jointly with NetEase, historical partner of Blizzard who previously worked on Diablo Immortal and published World of Warcraft in China.
But what happened for this game (code name “Neptune”) to pass the ace? It seems that the two partners failed to agree on a financial agreement. It must be said that the stakes are high: despite a disastrous critical reception due to its monetization, Diablo Immortal would have already crossed the threshold of $100 million of income.
